During a routine inspection

Before people move into Hope House they have the opportunity to discuss what care and support they require and how they want the service provided. People living in the home said staff knew and understood what they wanted. They listened to them and took into account their views and expectations and respected their right to privacy, dignity, choice and independence. Staff were very helpful and spent a lot of time with them and they were supported to access other health and social care services they needed.

Visitors considered staff were respectful to people in the home and were friendly and accommodating when they visited. They told us, their relatives had the support they needed for their health, personal and social needs. They said, 'It is excellent here. Staff have done wonders for her and I can't praise them enough'. And 'I visit regularly, she always seems happy enough'. 'The staff are wonderful, they don't just go the extra mile for her, they go beyond that.'

People made complimentary comments about the food. They enjoyed their meals and could have as much as they liked. Alternative meals were always provided. They were involved in planning menus. They had just recently had a food tasting day. They said, 'It is was really good, by the time I had finished I didn't want my tea'. One relative visiting said 'From what I've seen the food served is very good'. Special diets were catered for.

There were good arrangements in place for safeguarding people to make sure they were protected from abuse and their human rights upheld.

Visitors to the home said the home was kept clean and they were happy with the level of cleanliness maintained. People liked their bedrooms and were able to furnish them with them with their own belongings and possessions.

People praised the staff team and said they were always there for them. They could talk to them if they had any problem or query. One relative said, 'When I've visited I've never seen a resident left waiting for someone to help them'. Staff were described as 'very good' and 'really nice'.

Relatives visiting said staff were approachable and supportive One visitor in particular said they had done 'wonders' for her mother. Since she had lived in the home she had improved noticeably and was bright and alert.' That meant a lot to her, she was no longer worried about her mother, she had a good life in the home and she felt very content in this knowledge.

People said they were confident the manager would deal with any issue of concern they may have.
