During a routine inspection

At the top of this report there is no named registered manager in post. During this inspection we spoke with the acting manager for whom the employer is currently submitting paperwork to CQC for registration. We also spoke with a clinical nurse, head of clinical practice, the company owner and four people who used the service. We viewed records and policies and observed three clinical consultations.

People said that they had " A very good experience. The information given was clear and the nurse was very reassuring, especially since I do not like injections!" Others said "The nurse told me what I needed to know about where I was travelling to, I then decided whether I had all of the suggested vaccinations."

We noted that there was attention paid to cleanliness and infection control. We noted that all consultation areas and the waiting area were well maintained and clean. A member of staff told us that "Attention to cleanliness is second nature; as a nurse, it is engrained."

We saw that the layout of the clinic was safe and the areas for people who used the service were well maintained. We also saw that the area designated as a staff/store room was not similarly maintained.

We saw that there were effective recruitment and staff monitoring procedures in place. We were told that "Passion and drive were essential to do this job."

We saw that there was a system in place which sought service user feedback and which took note of complaints and adverse incidents.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with two staff and the Head of Operations for the organisation. We also spoke with three people who use the service. People said that they were able to get an appointment when they needed one and were informed of the cost of vaccinations prior to receiving treatment. They told us they were confident of the skills and knowledge of the nurse who they consulted with and felt they received the right treatment. Some comments we received from people were "the nurse was lovely and knew what she was doing' and "I was informed of what treatment was recommended for where I am travelling to, and was able to decide for myself'.

People said they were involved in deciding and consented to the treatment they received. Some people said they would have liked more information about the medication they were receiving and any potential side effects. However, they said that any questions they asked were answered to their satisfaction.

Staff received appropriate training and support for their work. The staff we spoke with said there was good teamwork which ensured that people received a good service.

We spoke with people using the clinic who were happy and complimentary about the service they received. They summed this up by saying,

'The service is excellent. I feel like I've been given a personal service and was given advice and treatment that I needed'.
