All Inspections

16 December 2010

During a routine inspection

One person told us that s/he was able to be independent by showing us that s/he had keys to the front door, his/her bedroom and the small safe in the bedroom. S/he was able to go out and lock the bedroom. S/he said s/he locked cigarettes and money in the safe overnight.

People told us that they were pleased with the care, the home and its staff. They thought the home was a good place for them to be living. People said they could talk to Mrs Joannides, the registered manager, about their care. One person had moved into the home recently and said he had settled in well. The following comments were made by different people living at the home:

"The staff are very good"

"I'm allowed to be independent. I like living here."

"I'm very grateful to be living in this home. Before I came here I was very ill."

"I'm very happy here"

We asked six people who lived at the home about the food. All six said they were happy with the food. Some of the comments people made were:

"Nice, free food. We had macaroni cheese. Sometimes it's fish and chips."

"I can make my own tea and coffee and sandwiches. I can't cook dinner. ... I can't fry chips"

We spoke to six people about whether the home and especially their bedroom was safe and suitable for them. All six people were pleased with the home and with their rooms. One person has difficulty with the stairs but did not want to move from their room on the first floor. This person told us that staff were always available to help him/her if s/he needed them. One person tidied their own room and was very proud to show us how it looked. Comments included:

"My room is lovely."

"I like it here. I have quite a big room. It's clean and tidy."

"I like my room.... I would like a new blind, earphones, soft toy and a bouncy ball for my room."
