During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with four people who used the service and five staff members; these were the registered manager, a care staff manager and three care workers.

The people we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they had received and with the staff team. One person who used the service told us 'I think they are excellent, they do all the tasks that I want'. Another person who used the service told us 'We've got to know them well now, they are very obliging. I'm pleased'. Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of the support needs of the people who used the service. One member of staff we spoke with told us 'We provide 100% good care and we work as a team to provide the best care we can for people'.

We saw that the service had systems in place to gain and review consent to care and treatment from people who used the service. The service also had sufficient numbers of suitably qualified staff to support people.

The service had appropriate systems in place for the management and administration of medication. We also saw that care plans, staff records and other records relevant to the management of the service were accurate and fit for purpose.

7 February 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with nine people who used Candlelight Care Services. These people told us that in general they were very happy with the service they received. Four people said there could be some improvement in relation to the attitude of some care staff. This related to instances where staff were required to carry out domestic tasks and had not considered these tasks as part of caring for people.

People told us that they had been involved in making decisions about their care and domestic tasks and the times they would like to care staff to call.

All the people we spoke with said that care staff were kind to them and treated them well. Eight people said that if they were unhappy with their care or felt they were not being treated properly they would know who to complain to.
