We carried out this assessment as the service had not been assessed since it was registered in September 2022 and remained unrated. SpaMedica Solihull is operated by SpaMedica Ltd. The service is a private hospital that offers cataract surgery, treatment for age related macular degeneration and Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (YAG) laser capsulotomy services for NHS patients. The service did not treat children.
We assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating.
We found:
The service was led by committed, passionate and focussed managers who ensured patients were at the forefront of decisions made. There was a strong, visible person-centred culture. Patients' individual needs and preferences were central to the planning and delivery of services. The service had a good learning culture and patients could raise concerns. Patients were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks.
Staff made sure patients understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Patients were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated patients as individuals and supported their preferences. The service supported staff wellbeing in numerous ways. Patients were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided information in many ways to ensure patients could understand. The service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback.
