During an inspection in response to concerns

People who use this service and relatives were interviewed. The people who use this service interviewed had varying degrees of need for nursing and personal care. All were able to communicate verbally.

All of the people who use this service interviewed said they felt that Brook House was a good place to live and that they were happy and safe there. All felt able to talk to staff about what they wanted and needed. Some people said they were aware of their care plan and that they were able to communicate their needs to staff and the manager. Other people said they were not fully aware of what their care plan was about.

All people said that the activities co-ordinator had asked them about things they liked to do and involved them a number of times a week in activities they liked. Some people said they were listened to and respected by staff and one said there had been a lot of staff changes and that while most of them were nice there were still some staff who were not so good. They did not wish to expand on this.

All of the people who use the service interviewed said that they knew who they would talk to if they had a complaint, and felt able to raise any concerns that they might have. None had had occasion to make a formal complaint. All of the people we spoke to said they felt safe and comfortable with staff supporting them.

Some of the people who use the service said that maybe staff did more for them than they wanted them to when receiving support.

All said that their medication was being looked after as they wished.

People who use the service we interviewed said they were aware of the procedures the home had in place to look after people's money and valuables and thought these to be adequate and appropriate. These people or their families were managing their own finances.
