During a routine inspection

Most of the people who use the service and their relatives were happy with the care that they received. People said, 'generally staff are nice and helpful.' 'The relief manager is nice and it's been a bit better since she's been here but it's still not as good as it used to be.' 'The staff do everything to please me, and they always ask me what I want.'

A relative said, 'staff are very careful when they turn my mother and go by her facial expressions. They keep an eye on her for infections and get her antibiotics when needed. My mother is always tense and agitated when she leaves the home but as soon as she gets back she is calm and relaxed.'

People told us that they were given opportunities to make choices about their care and welfare.

Staff said, 'yes people get good care. When I came here two people had pressure sores but now they're closed up and the skin integrity is better." 'When I came here one person had a grade three pressure sore but with daily checks and treatment this is now healed. I don't feel that people would get pressure sores now because of the level of care.'

A visiting healthcare professional told us that people were okay and there were no major problems. Also that, "things were improving" and they were "working together."

A local authority safeguarding officer said that he was satisfied with the improvements made and the implementation of the action plan to address concerns from various safeguarding issues.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We did not visit the service as part of this review and therefore did not talk to people who use the service. We did attend meetings held by the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham in line with Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures. The meeting were also attended by social workers of people who use the service, a quality assurance manager for the local authority, healthcare professionals and representatives of the provider. We also looked at safeguarding referrals and investigation reports into the safeguarding issues.
