Our current view of the service

Date of Assessment 10 February to 12 March 2026. The service is a residential care home for up to 29 older people some of whom live with dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 29 people living at Malden House. Staff were passionate about providing high quality care. The senior management team had excellent oversight of the home and carried out regular checks of the quality of care. Robust effective systems were in place to ensure peoples care needs were met. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff knew people well and could mitigate risks of harm. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Everyone we spoke with without exception told us the staff were very kind and caring. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.

People and relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. Staff routinely promoted people’s independence and choice. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One relative said, “I was involved in [person’s] care plan, and can always speak to the manager if any changes need to me made. They listen to me if I have anything to say. They meet [their] care needs very well and are just so kind.” A person told us, “The food is lovely, the staff are caring, kind and helpful." People we spoke with told us they could see a healthcare professional when they needed to. We observed nice interactions between staff and people over the 2 visits. Staff were patient and caring. People looked relaxed and content in the home. People said the service provided lots of interesting activities to keep people physically and mentally active. People and relatives told us they knew who and how to make a complaint if needed. At the time of the inspection there were no complaints. People and relatives told us this was a great place and had lovely caring staff. Everyone we spoke with said they would recommend the home to others.
