During an inspection in response to concerns

We carried out the inspection because of information we had received from a member of the public and because the service had not had a registered manager for two years. We wanted to assess whether the absence of a registered manager had compromised the quality of care experienced by the people who used the service.

We spoke with three people who used the service and relatives of two other people. All of the people we spoke with were enthusiastic and complimentary about the care and support they had experienced.

People were very satisfied with the quality of care they received. A relative told us, "I'm very pleased. We have a very good team of carers. They look after my husband very well. Our needs can be flexible and the carers are flexible and responsive to our needs.I can't praise them enough. They are brilliant." Another person told us, "It's very good. The carers come at times I expect them to. They always let me know if they are delayed. There has never been an occasion when they have not arrived. They are a fantastic company compared to others I've had. They understand my needs." Another person who used the service told us, "I'm perfectly satisfied. They never let me down. I couldn't wish for any better."

We found that the absence of a registered manager had not compromised the quality of care provided. However,we found that the service did not have an effective support structure for staff that provided up to date training, development and supervision.

During a routine inspection

Twenty three people used the service at the time of our inspection. We spoke with two people who used the service and relatives of three other people. All of the people we spoke with were complimentary about the service. People told us that they had been involved in decisions about their care and that care workers had treated them with respect. People told us that it was important to them that they had regular carers.

One person who used the service told us, "The carers are very efficient, they do all of the things they should do. I get the same carers from a team of carers. It's important to me that I get the same carers." Relatives were equally satisfied with the care and support their family members received. One relative told us, "The staff are friendly nothing is too much trouble. I'd tell them if I wasn't satisfied. I read the notes the carers make and they are accurate. I have been involved in discussions and decisions about the care." Another relative told us, "The carers are extremely good. They are always happy and cheerful and very caring. I couldn't manage without them."

We found that care workers had received appropriate training to be able to support people who used the service.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.
