During a routine inspection

We spoke with people and reviewed documents of people and staff during visit. We spoke to one person living in the home. He told us that he was happy with staff and the care being given to him. He was able to tell us about his involvement in planning of his weekly activities and also his care. During the visit he had just attended the cooking session in the local community with staff. He was able to show his certificate he had obtained from his course and also the meal he had made which he was going to have later. We were told of his pending move to a 'flat house' which he was actively involved in and was excited about.

We spoke to staff during the visit. They told us that they enjoyed their work and helping people achieve their goals. They told us that they were aware of people individual needs. Handover took place to ensure continuity of care which was comprehensive. Staff also told us that they were training opportunities for them to attend. This also included training which was relevant to the needs of people they looked after. Staff told us that they had regular meetings and received supervision which enabled them to have forums to discuss care and professional development issues.

During a routine inspection

People who live at Pasley Street are highly dependent on the support given to them both for their daily care needs and to ensure that they have a good and fulfilled quality of life.

People who live at the home require some support to express their views and feelings about the service and the care and support they receive.

We visited the home so that we could spend time getting to know people and to see if people were happy where they live.

We observed the staff as they supported people in the home and spoke to them about their work and understanding of people's needs.

We spoke to other professionals who have been involved with people who live in the home such as health professionals and advocacy services. We also spoke to relatives about their views and experiences of this home.

During our visit we observed people laughing and smiling and interacting positively with the staff supporting them.

People said that they liked living at Pasley Street and on the day we visited were happy and proud to show us around their home.

We were told by the Plymouth Learning Disability services that the home provides 'excellent care and support' and that the organisation is always willing to adapt the service to meet the specific needs of each individual.
