During a routine inspection

During our visit to this service we spoke with several of the people, who told us that they prefer to be called residents, to try and find out what it was like for them to live there.

Generally we found that everyone was very happy. They told us that they feel very safe in the home, it is always clean and tidy ' someone always comes in and cleans my room every day' and that staff were very kind. One resident commented 'I think that I could have anything that I wanted, everything is always done just as I like it'.

Some residents said that they experienced some difficulties in communicating with some of the staff, the majority of whom are from overseas but everyone agreed that they were very caring and helpful with one resident telling us ' we have so much fun, they're a real laugh'.

There is some degree of choice in relation to staff who help residents with their personal care which was especially important for one lady who would not have wanted to be attended to by a male carer. However, other ladies told us that 'male staff are very respectful and always maintain my dignity'.

Some of the residents we spoke with complained about the food that was served, 'the food is poor quality', 'it is not very well served on the plate' although others told us 'it's very nice' and 'I particularly like the soup'. They are always offered a choice.

There are a range of activities provided for those who wish to join in although some residents told us that they had not been consulted about what they would like to do and others said that they would like more.

There is a complaints procedure in place in the home and all of the residents have a copy in their rooms. However all of the people that we spoke with told us that should they ever need to raise any concerns they would tell the staff and they are sure it would be sorted out very quickly.
