During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment: 31 March and 9 April 2026.

Hatherley Lodge is a care home that provides supported accommodation for up to 8 people who have mental health needs. At the time of the inspection 8 people were using the service.

We spoke with the registered manager, deputy manager and 3 staff members. We also received feedback from health and social care professionals. We looked at 3 people’s care plans and risk assessments and other records relating to the management of the service. We found risks to people had been assessed to ensure their needs were safely met. The provider had safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures in place and staff had a clear understanding of these. Appropriate recruitment checks had taken place before staff started working at the service. There were enough staff to support people and meet their needs. People had access to health care professionals when they needed them, and they received their medicines when needed. There were systems in place to help prevent and control infections.

Staff had received training related to people’s care needs and they received regular supervision from their managers. People’s diverse needs and wishes were assessed, documented and respected. People were supported to manage their health and wellbeing to maximise their independence. There was a complaints procedure in place in formats that people could understand.

The service had a registered manager in post; they oversaw a deputy manager who managed Hatherley Lodge day-to-day. The registered manager and deputy manager demonstrated good knowledge of people’s needs and the needs of the staffing team. There were systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service, and any learning was identified and acted on. People opinions about the service were considered through surveys and key working meetings. Staff told us they received good support from the management team.
