All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five of the seven people currently living in Saxon Lodge. All either told us or indicated through facial expressions and gestures that they were very happy. One person said, 'I am going out soon to buy some pens, I have my money and my shoes on and I am looking forward to it.' Another person said, 'The staff are lovely and so is the food, especially the breakfasts.'

People's needs had been fully assessed and their care plans clearly described the support that they needed. Care plans and risk assessments had been regularly reviewed and updated to reflect people's changing needs. People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment. There were good infection control procedures in place and the home was clean and fresh.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. Records were well maintained, accurate and fit for purpose. People received safe, effective and compassionate care from a well led service that responds quickly to their changing needs.

During a routine inspection

People living in Saxon Lodge were able to talk to us to a degree, but not always able to fully express their views about their care or experiences in Saxon Lodge. We therefore used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service. We observed how people interacted with staff and management and spent time with people using the service.

Everyone living in Saxon Lodge had lived there for a number of years and clearly regarded it as their home where they felt relaxed and felt able to follow their own routines.

People told us that they felt happy and safe. People had a very good rapport with staff. Most of the staff had worked at the service for a number of years to provide people with consistency and familiarity. People indicated through their actions that they liked all the staff and go on well with them.
