During an assessment under our new approach
‘Hounslow and Ealing’ is a branch of Open Heart Care Ltd. This service is a domiciliary care agency. It provides personal care to people living in their own houses and flats. At the time of our assessment, 9 people were using the service. The agency provided a service to both older and younger adults, including adults with a learning disability.
The service was registered with CQC on 27 July 2022, and this is the first assessment (since registration). We have rated the service good.
The provider made sure people using the service were safely cared for. They had assessed their needs, choices and risks associated with their care. People had been involved in these assessments and were happy with the planned care. People received their medicines as prescribed. Staff were appropriately trained and had the guidance and information they needed to care for people safely.
The provider had systems to monitor and improve the service. These included analysing and learning from things that went wrong, carrying out a range of audits and checks and liaising with external partners to ensure people received good quality care and services.
We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.
We found the provider was meeting the principles of Right support, right care, right culture. Staff were appropriately trained. People were offered choices and staff found ways to support people using different techniques to communicate with them. Staff were supported by external teams to understand people’s individual needs and to provide safe and person-centred care.
