All Inspections

5 December 2013

During a routine inspection

The inspection visit was carried out by one Inspector over four hours. The manager was present throughout the visit, and we talked with her and with other staff. We also talked with people living in the home and with two relatives.

We found that people spoke positively about the standards of care they received. One person said: 'I am very pleased with all the care staff, and I am grateful for everything they do.' A relative said 'They look after X very well, and the staff are always helpful.'

We observed that people were treated with kindness and respect, and were enabled to stay in their own rooms or to join in with others according to their preference.

People said that the food was 'very good'; and we saw that the menus provided a suitably nutritious and varied diet.

The premises were a large, old, detached building, which was suitably maintained. A lift provided access between all floors, and there were appropriate facilities to meet people's needs.

We found that staff received appropriate training and support to carry out their roles effectively.

The manager had systems in place to monitor the on-going standards of care. People were able to share their views, and appropriate action was taken to address any concerns.

3 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who lived in the home. People we spoke with told us they made their own decisions and staff and the manager took their individual choices and preferences into account. Comments included, "They always treat me with respect and I make my own decisions." "They take the time to listen to me and do their best to do things how I like."

All the people we spoke with told us they were very comfortable in the home. They said, "Moving here was the best thing I ever did." "I am very comfortable here, the staff are excellent." "Nothing to complain about here." People told us staff helped them with their medicines and brought them to them at the times they needed them. People we spoke with all praised staff and the manager of the service. They said, "Staff are marvellous, so friendly and helpful." " The nurses here are all so kind, they really look after you."

25 October 2011

During a routine inspection

During the visit we talked with nine people living in the home, two visitors, and six staff (as well as the Manager).

People spoke very positively about the standards of care given, with comments such as:

'They look after us very well.'

'I am happy here.'

'I think the staff do everything they can to keep us comfortable.'

'It's really lovely here! I love every minute. The staff are all wonderful. The best thing I ever did was to come in here.'

'I can't fault the care here."

One person said that they sometimes found 'one or two staff are not as gentle as the others.'

We saw some recent thank you cards sent to the home, which included comments such as:

'Thank you for all the love, care and kindness shown to my relative over the past two years.'

'It was a great relief to know that my relative was in safe hands.'

'My relative was very happy at Fontenay.'
