All Inspections

30 December 2013 and 2 January 2014

During a routine inspection

The staff we spoke with displayed a good understanding of people's needs and this matched the information in the care plans we checked. This meant people's needs were assessed and care was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. People we spoke with told us they were happy with the care and support they received from staff. One person told us, 'I am quite independent but when I am poorly the staff help me with whatever I need.'

The people we spoke with told us they felt safe living at the service. People also knew who they could talk to should they have any concerns. Staff were trained in how to recognise and respond to incidents or allegations of abuse. We found some issues in relation to the record keeping around people's finances. However the manager and registered provider responded quickly to this and the issues were rectified.

Staff were being given training and support to do their job. People spoken with gave positive feedback about the care staff were delivering. One person said, 'I like the staff here, I get on well with them and we can have a laugh.'

None of the people we spoke with had any concerns about the service. One person said, 'I have no complaints and if I did I would tell [the manager] straight away.

21 February and 4 March 2013

During a routine inspection

People said that staff members were polite, kind and respectful. They confirmed that their privacy and dignity was respected. They stated they were involved in reviewing their care plan and were supported to make decisions regarding their immediate care needs and wishes.

People received the care and support they required to improve their health and well-being. Care records were written in detail and provided clear guidance to staff members, although evaluations of care plans were not always completed.

Medicines were stored appropriately and records were maintained to show all storage areas were kept at the correct temperature. Administration records were kept and people received their medicines in a safe way.

Recruitment checks were all carried out or obtained prior to new staff members starting work with the service.

There were systems in place to regularly check and monitor the way the service was run.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we inspected the service in March 2011 we saw that people using the service had signed a form consenting to staff accessing the information recorded in their care plan.

Information was recorded in an easy read picture format to enable people using the service to be involved in their care plan. One person told us, 'I discuss my care plan with my key worker and agree to what is in there.'

10 March 2011

During a routine inspection

People using the service told us that they had regular meetings and that they were asked about menus and activities. One person told us, 'We say where we would like to go and the acting manager arranges it for us.'

We saw that people using the service had signed a form consenting to staff accessing the information recorded in their care plan. One person told us, 'I discuss my care plan with my key worker and agree to what is in there.'

We spoke with people using the service and they told us that they did lots of activities in the home and in the community. One person we spoke with was in full time employment. Another person was working part time in a church and they showed us their daily life diary. The diary contained evidence that this person led an active social life in the community and was supported to spend time with friends and family.
