During a routine inspection

We were told that Healthcare at Home receive referrals from a wide range of sources, including consultants in their private practice, consultants in the NHS, specialist nurses in the NHS, and self funding patients. We were told by one patient that they were seen in a hospital clinic and were offered the choice of receiving their treatment at home.

All the people we spoke with said they felt confident with the nurses abilities, skills and knowledge and liked the one to one care they received. One person said "If I have had a problem with cannulation (putting a needle in the arm to take medication and infusions), the nurses from Health Care at Home have never had a problem and they deal with it quickly."

All five of the people we spoke with were positive about the care they received from Healthcare at Home and said they were treated with respect. One person said "Because it is one to one care you get to know the nurses really well. I feel in good hands." Another person said "Its lovely having a face I know and having a nurse who knows their job very well."

When describing the service people used words including; exceptional, extremely good and satisfied, wonderful and professional.

People said they felt involved in their care. One person said "My treatment takes about two hours. When they have set up my infusion they sit and talk to me." Another person said "It's very relaxed."

People all described feeling confident in the nurses abilities and said they thought the staff were very good. One person said "They all make you feel very safe and if they are going to be late due to unforeseen circumstances they call ahead and let me know."

Staff with whom we spoke told us that people's privacy, dignity and independence are respected and that their views on the support and care they receive are taken into

account.

People spoken with indicated that they were well looked after by the staff at Healthcare at Home.

People told us that "The nurses are excellent, efficient and friendly." One person said "'In the years I have received care I have not had one bad nurse. They are all lovely."

People appreciate being cared for by skilled knowledgeable staff. One person said '"hey are so experienced and informative, they know all the side effects of the medication and are knowledgeable about their subject."

People told us that they felt comfortable talking with the staff about any issues that they

had and that the manager was also available for them to talk to.

Nobody we spoke with confirmed they had been contacted by the organisation to find whether they were receiving a good service, but all said the nurses asked regularly whether they were happy. One person said "I'm asked by my oncologist if everything is going well." Whilst another person said; "When we started it was very frightening and I was in shock to start with but the nurses would follow up a few days later to check I was feeling OK and were always readily available by phone."
