During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with four people who used the service, three members of staff and the registered manager. People told us that they were generally very happy with the care and support they received. One person told us 'They are excellent, they never mess me about and I can easily communicate with the office'. Another said 'I would highly recommend Carewatch.'

We spoke with three staff. One told us that they 'enjoyed their work and had a really lovely group of people to support'. The others both said 'I love my job.' All told us that there was lots of support available to them.

Staff told us that there was sufficient information in the support plans to be able to assist each person although it was not always as clear as it could be. They told us they always read the information and checked verbally with people that nothing had changed.

There was an up to date policy and procedure for medication. Staff had received training and were able to demonstrate knowledge of their responsibilities with regards to prompting or assisting people with medication.

There was an effective recruitment process in place which ensured that staff had the right skills and qualifications and were safe to work with vulnerable people.

Records were accurate and fit for purpose. They were securely stored and the provider had a policy for retention and destruction.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who use the service and one of their relatives. They all told us that they were pleased with the care and support they received. They said they were involved in the planning of their care and were able to make changes and raise issues. One person said if they wanted to change something then 'they just rang the office'.

The people we spoke with told us that the care staff were mostly on time and always stayed for the right amount of time. One person told us that 'the carers are lovely'. Another said 'you can have a good laugh with the carers'. Staff told us they followed the care and support plans which they felt contained adequate information. We found there were sections of the care plans which had not been completed fully which could impact on the care and support that people received.

The provider and staff were aware of their responsibilities regarding protecting people from abuse and the people we spoke with said that they felt 'happy and safe' They also said they knew how to raise concerns. Staff felt supported and the provider had processes in place to ensure that people were assisted and cared for by trained and experienced staff.

People who use the service and staff were asked for their feed back. There was evidence that this was analysed and used to make improvements to the service provided. People knew how to make a complaint and we saw that complaints that had been made were recorded and dealt with in a timely manner.
