Lancaster Court is a care home. It provides accommodation, personal care and nursing care for up to 65 people across 3 floors. At this inspection 64 people were living at the service. This was the first assessment of this service carried out under our single assessment framework. Assessment activity took place between 30 January 2025 and 11 March 2025. We visited the service on 30 January 2025 and 3 February 2025. This was an unannounced assessment completed by 2 inspectors and 1 expert by experience. We looked at all quality statements and identified breaches in regulations in relation to medicines management, managing risk, and staff skills and competency in moving and handling.
The registered manager had not ensured staff were competent in moving and handling and had not always identified sufficient actions/learning following incidents. People’s as needed (PRN) medicines were not always managed well, and the registered manager had not ensured assessments were completed for all risks to people.
Staff had received training in safeguarding and understood their responsibilities. The home was clean and well maintained.
Staff provided dignified care and understood people’s communication needs. There was a positive culture within the service with most staff feeling well supported by their manager and colleagues. People’s records showed the service worked with other professionals.
The systems and processes to monitor the quality of the service were not always effective. The registered manager was responsive to feedback where improvements were required.
