During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people who used the service and three people's family members or representatives. Overall, people were positive about the care they received. They told us they felt safe and protected. They confirmed they were asked about the quality of service and their experiences. For example, one person said, 'The lady at the office is very on the ball. Rings up to check everything is in place and if I need anything.' Another person said, 'The office regularly ring to check you're happy with the care arrangements or if any tweaks or changes need to be made. Sometimes I have had to cancel things at short notice due to a hospital appointment and it's never been a problem. They (office team) are very accommodating and flexible.'

People told us their privacy was respected and that they were treated with dignity. One person told us, 'I get help with getting washed and dressed. They always ask first before they do anything.'

We looked at three people's care records which provided information for staff on how to meet their individual health and care needs. We saw that people's choices and preferences were reflected in the care records and written in a way that promoted independence.

We looked at staff records and spoke with three members of staff who told us they were being appropriately supervised and supported.

We saw that the provider had systems and procedures in place to regularly monitor and assess the quality of the service provided.

We saw that the service provided enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. We looked at staff records and spoke with three members of staff who told us they were being appropriately supervised and supported. Staff were knowledgeable about the people they supported and how to meet their needs.

During our two home visits we observed that the interaction between staff and people using the service was friendly, respectful and professional. We saw that staff sought people's agreement before providing support or assistance.

We saw that care plans were drawn up after proper assessment of the person's needs and involving the person and their family. One relative told us, 'They take on board what I say, and what (the person) needs.'

We saw evidence that staff were properly trained and supervised to ensure they were competent to carry out their role. One person told us, 'I trust the carers implicitly.'

The provider had effective systems in place to monitor the quality of staff performance, and the quality and safety of the overall service.
