During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke to a group of people following their cake making activity. Everybody we spoke to was happy with the standard of care provided. The people all said that the home had improved since the new manager had started. They commented on the 'open door' policy in the home, stating that they felt able to talk to anybody especially the manager at any time. One person told us that they had asked their son to talk to the manager about an issue that was upsetting them. The manager had dealt with the issue straight away. We asked the people whether they thought there was enough to do in the home to keep them occupied. One person said, 'there is always plenty to do here, we are just waiting for the cakes to finish cooking, we do quizzes, play board games, dominoes and we go on trips in the summer.' another person added, 'we will soon be getting the hanging baskets out to plant.' the activities organiser confirmed that the garden club would soon be planting hanging baskets.

We also spoke to people individually. One person told us that they were 'very happy with the people who look after me'. They also said they were pleased with the way their spouse was always welcomed into the home. A visitor spoke on behalf of her mother saying she thought the care provided was ' excellent' and all her mother's friends and family thought Pondsmead was 'a lovely place to visit'.
