During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found that the service had made improvements and implemented actions as a result of the issues we highlighted during our previous inspection in March 2013.

At the time of our inspection, there were two people living at the home. We spoke with both of them. Although they did not want to talk extensively with us, they told us that they thought the home was good. Where people were not able to express their opinion, we spent time observing the support they received. We observed staff acting in a kind and supportive manner to residents.

When we visited last time we found that people were at risk of unsafe or inappropriate care as care plan records, including risk assessments, were not personalised and did not represent an up-to-date reflection of people's needs. We also found that the provider did not have appropriate systems to make sure that it assessed and monitored the quality of care provided. During the current inspection we found that appropriate assessments were in place and monitoring of quality was taking place.

We also found that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. They were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment, and were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

7 March 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found that the service had made improvements and implemented actions as a result of the issues we highlighted during our previous inspection in November 2012.

We spoke with people who used the service. One person told us that they were supported to go out from the home most days of the week. We found that an activities book had been introduced to record what activities people had taken part in. We also found that a menu had been introduced offering people who used the service a balanced diet and a choice at each meal time.

We found that people's personal care needs had been provided for. We spoke with a relative of someone who used the service and they told us that the registered manager had contacted them to discuss what activities their relative liked to do, to ask if there were any places of interest or from their past that they may like to visit and to ask what food they preferred. This relative told us that they found that the service had "made efforts to treat them well and respond to their needs".

We found that the home was visibly clean throughout and that new flooring had been fitted in the kitchen to prevent the risk of germs and infection.

People were at risk of unsafe or inappropriate care as care plan records, including risk assessments, were not individual and an up to date reflection of people's needs. The provider did not have appropriate systems to make sure that they assessed and monitored the quality of care they provided.

23 November 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

One person told us they did not like the food at the home. This person said they bought their own food. They did not want to make any other comments. Another person told us the home was "alright" but did not want to make further comments. The third person living at the home was not able to give us her views on the care provided. We spoke to people's care coordinators on their behalf who said they did not have concerns about the care provided.
