At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. Prior to receiving care, initial assessments were completed by the local authority and with the provider, alongside the person who would be receiving care and support. Where appropriate their relative or appointed advocates were also involved.People’s care plans provided detailed information about their individual needs and how staff could best support them.We found care was in line with people’s needs. Where needs changed, care had been adapted and care plans reviewed.

The service told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. We observed throughout our visits, staff seeking consent from people before they supported them. The service worked in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). A clear process was in place to carry out decisions specific MCA assessments where it was identified people lacked capacity. Staff had received training in the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and had access to the provider’s MCA policy and procedure. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities in relation to the MCA. People confirmed they were given choices and asked what they would like to do.
