During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we inspected this service in April 2013 we saw little evidence that people's capacity to consent to decisions about their care was being considered.

This visit was made to see what improvements had been made. We found that work had been done to make sure people who lived at the home and, where appropriate, their relatives were involved in issues relating to consent and in making decisions about their care.

On this occasion we did not speak with people who lived at the home. However we did see evidence in the care records that people had been involved and included in the planning of care and support.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with a number of people who live at the home. Some people, due to their complex care needs, were not able to comment on their opinion of the service but these are some of the things people told us:

"The girls are nice to me, they help me"

" I like the food, I can choose what I would like to eat"

" I like it when the singers come, I like to sing and dance"

We reviewed people's care records but saw little evidence that people's capacity to consent to decisions about their care was being considered. We saw that care plans were in place although often a little brief and lacking in detail.

We saw that good procedures were in place for managing medications and for appointing new staff.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with a number of people who live at the home. Some people, due to their complex care needs, were not able to comment on their opinion of the service but three people gave us the following comments:

"On the whole very good, all trying to do their best"

"Could do with more staff, have to wait longer than I would like, sometimes ten minutes which is a long time"

"I wouldn't tell anyone if I was unhappy, they are doing their best"

"I like my room, It's always clean and tidy and I have a lovely view"

"I like some of the staff better than others"

"I'm highly satisfied, the food is very good and I'm very particular about food. I had this place recommended to me and I would recommend it to others"

"No activities, just TV"

"Sometimes we have a quiz and I like that, sometimes we have singers which are very good"
