People's experience of this service

People who were able to share their views with us told us they felt safe and were happy living at Ashleigh Manor. Comments included. “Yes, I feel safe here, more than I did at home because there’s staff around if you need them. It’s reassuring that there’s someone to help,” “Yes, I’m safe the staff are great,” and “The staff are lovely and caring.” We received mixed feedback from relatives regarding people’s experiences. Most relatives did not have any concerns for their loved one’s safety. Comments included, “Yes, I’m happy with her care overall and have confidence in them,” “Yes, mum is safe - she would tell me if she wasn’t safe or looked after properly,” and “I have no concerns about her care. I feel she’s in the right place.” However, some relatives told us they did not have confidence in the care people were receiving or the management team. Comments included. I’ve complained about lots of things – mum’s care, dirty room, etc,” “Staff seem a bit task focussed rather than person-centred,” and “We’ve mentioned a range of concerns – but don’t ever seem to get a straight answer. Management and staff don’t say the same things.” We found the service was not always operating in accordance with the regulations and best practice guidance. This meant people were at risk of receiving care and support that did not promote their wellbeing or protect them from the risk of avoidable harm. Care records did not accurately reflect people’s needs, and people were not always supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. Systems and processes in place to ensure people received their medicines appropriately were not robust and did not provide assurances that people always received their medicines as prescribed.
