Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 10 December 2025

Date of assessment: 11 December 2025.

This assessment was completed to check necessary improvements had been made to address the issues identified during our previous assessment. Following that assessment, we took enforcement action to address breaches of the regulations relating to Deprivation of Liberties procedures and recruitment practices.

We assessed all aspects of the safe quality statement. The service is a care home providing support for up to 27 older people. At the time of our assessment 24 people were living at Chypons Residential Home.

Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. The registered manager understood the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and necessary Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applications had been made. Recruitment practices demonstrated appropriate pre-employment checks had been completed before new staff began work.

Staffing levels were sufficient to meet people’s needs and records showed planned staffing levels were routinely achieved. Staff were patient and kind and responded promptly to requests for assistance. Staff were confident people were safe and knew how to report safeguarding concerns should this become necessary.

Medicines were managed safely, and infection control procedures were effective.

People's experience of the service

Updated 10 December 2025

People were relaxed and comfortable in the service and confident when requesting help. Staff were responsive and provided care with compassion and kindness. People told us, “The staff are nice”, “They are looking after me” and “I like it here, I came here just over a year ago as a break and I liked it, so I stayed”.

Staff enjoyed working in the service and said, “I love working here” and “Normally there are enough staff. We are only short if very unexpected things happen. Our sickness has gone right down”.

People were able to access a range of activities in the service lounge and external entertainers visited regularly. Staff regularly brought their pets into the service which people enjoyed.
