All Inspections

During a routine inspection

One person lived at the home. We were unable to speak to them; at the time of inspection they were attending a day centre where they have been going for some years and currently attended five days a week, transported there by the provider. They lived with the provider as part of their family spending most of their time with them. The person occupied a ground floor bedroom which met their mobility needs and had exclusive use of one lounge. The home was spacious enough to allow each family member time to be alone as well as together. The home was very well laid out and tidy offering a calm and accessible environment for someone with physical or sensory disabilities to be able to navigate easily.

We found evidence that the provider worked closely with all relevant agencies to ensure they continued to offer appropriate care and support to the person, including healthcare and advocacy, and that they were able to support the person to plan for their future.

During a routine inspection

One person lived at the home. They told us they were able to make some decisions for themselves but most of the time they needed help which was provided each day by the providers. They said they chose what time they got up, what time they went to bed and how they spent their day. They chose to attend a day centre each weekday and spent evenings and weekends living as part of the provider's family.

They said 'I go to the centre everyday. I have lots of friends at the centre. They are all very nice up there and I really like going. I have lovely meals there, I do some knitting and play bingo. I like spending time chatting to all my friends there. We have a laugh, that's what it's all about. In the evenings I watch TV or listen to the radio. I love music'.

They were supported to maintain their independence and they told us they could do some things for themselves. They could choose to spend time alone if they wished and their privacy was respected. They said 'I can bath and dress myself. I have a bath every morning and choose clean clothes every day. If I need any help the providers always help me. They are lovely people'.

If they became unwell the providers 'look after me. I see my doctor now and again if I need to. I've been well recently so I haven't seen them. I do have some other appointments to go to. They always remind me, tell me what they are for. They always come with me'. They had medication which they took each day. They needed help with their medicines and this was always provided.

They liked the meals they had. They ate lunch at the day centre but had their evening meal at home. They told us they chose meals on a daily basis. 'The food is lovely and I choose what I want to eat'. They said one of the providers 'is a really good cook'.

The person who lived at the home said they liked living at Houndstone Cottage and liked the home very much. They had a choice of the exclusive use of one lounge or to share all of the other communal spaces, including a conservatory. They told us 'this is my own lounge. I have this lounge and I have a bedroom downstairs. Next door is my bathroom. I can't really manage the stairs now so I have all the rooms I need downstairs. We have a lovely garden and I like to sit out when the weather is nice'.
