During an inspection looking at part of the service

Relatives told us that the personal care provided to people had improved and staff were quick to respond to changes in the health of the people they visit. They also told us that staff called for external medical treatment promptly when it was required. One relative commented that staff assisted people with their hearing aids but at times they had found that they had not turned them on, or checked that the batteries worked. Another stated that staff did not appear to do any activities, or invite the person they visited, to participate in social events going on in the home.

Relatives stated that they had observed that the people they came to visit appeared to enjoy the food they were provided with and that the food was well presented.

Relatives said there appeared to be enough staff on duty when they visited the home.

During an inspection in response to concerns

The people we spoke to stated that they received the care and support they needed. One person thought they were, 'well looked after.' However, they added that they were concerned that when there were staff shortages people were not helped to get out of bed and assisted with washing and dressing until around the time the midday meal was being served. We were told that the meals that were provided usually met their expectations. There were mixed comments about being offered choice for meals. They also said that they thought the home was kept clean and tidy.

We were provided with positive comments about the staff in the home. These included that they were 'friendly', 'always spoke to people pleasantly' and 'responded to requests for assistance'.
