All Inspections

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with two patients who used the service. The patients we spoke with told us they felt safe and had no concerns about their care. They told us the care they received was delivered in a way that respected their privacy and dignity. Patients told us that any care or treatment planned for them had been thoroughly discussed with them and their agreement had been obtained. Comments we received from patients included: "They told me exactly what was happening", and "I have not had to wait for pain relief".

During our visit we saw evidence that care records were detailed and contained enough information for patients to be cared for safely and effectively. We found that effective staff recruitment and selection processes were in place.

We saw evidence during our inspection that the organisational procedures regarding the management of medicines were followed correctly.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four patients and their relatives. Patients felt that they had been consulted and informed about their treatment. One patient said, "They explained the treatment and what's happening.' Patients said that they had consented to the medical interventions. They said that "Options and risks had been discussed with them'.

One patient said, "' wonderful. The nursing staff really talk to you they don't just do the tasks. I couldn't wish for better. It's a good hospital, good people and well run. I'm more than happy with it".

Patients told us that call bells were answered quickly. Patients felt that care they received helped them to regain confidence where, for example, they had received physiotherapy following their operation.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to people using the services and staff in each of the areas that we visited. People who use the service generally felt that they were looked after well and that staff were attentive and caring.

Comments from patients about their experience included 'Staff are superb I can't fault them', and 'The anaesthetist was brilliant, he told me everything that he was doing'. 'They are a lovely team. Even the tea is pretty good'. One person said 'The food is excellent, the menus are absolutely lovely there is quite a lot of choice for vegetarians. I have found everyone excellent'. Another person said 'The food is good, I have booked a meal for my wife and daughter tonight'.

People said that hand cleaning was carried out by staff in advance of any care being provided. Comments received were 'Very clean staff gel their hands when coming into the room and when leaving the room'.

People told us that the level of cleanliness was very good and that the wards were swept and cleaned on a regular basis. People had seen that beds and equipment were cleaned between uses.

Comments from patients included 'Cleanliness is wonderful my room is cleaned every day and not just flicked over. The cleaner goes all around even the skirting boards', and 'Cleaning lady was in this morning, she knocked on the door to see if it was alright if she could hoover and dust. They spray everything, including the door handles'.
