During a routine inspection

The home had a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The people who used the service told us that they felt settled and comfortable living there. One person told us, 'This place suits me and I've got better since I've been here. All the people here are my family - the staff and the other residents.'

People told us they liked the meals served at the home. One person said, 'The food is lovely.' Another person commented, 'I like potato wedges and curries. All the food is homemade ' we buy the ingredients and make the meals here.'

People said they liked where the home was and how it looked. One person said, 'It's good here because it's handy for the shops.' When we inspected the home was clean, tidy and warm.

People got on well with the staff. One person told us, 'Top marks for the staff, manager and deputy.' Staff worked with people in a warm and supportive way and were patient and kind.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the service and their relatives. They told us they were happy with the care they received and felt staff treated them with dignity and respect. One person told us 'they look after (my relative) really well'.

People told us they were involved in planning and reviewing their care. One person told us 'Not only are we involved in the annual review meeting; (my relatives) key worker phones at least once a week and lets us know what's going on. We have an awful lot of contact with what's going on'. We saw evidence that showed the provided discussed peoples care and treatment choices with them.

People told us they felt safe at the home and had never seen anything of concern. We saw the provider had processes in place to deal with any concerns and that staff and people who use the service knew how to raise a concern. One person told us 'I know (my relative) is definitely safe, you can see he is happy'.

People felt the home was well maintained and there were enough well trained staff to meet their needs. Nobody we spoke with had ever had to make a complaint but each person felt they could speak to the manager or care staff at anytime and were confident the issue would be addressed.
