All Inspections

During an inspection in response to concerns

The nature of the concern we received was such that we decided to look at records of how care workers had been deployed. We looked at training records and spoke with three members of the senior management team and a senior care worker. We did not speak with any of the people who lived at Cherry Grange or Ashgrove because they were occupied with activities.

We found that the provider had taken appropriate steps to ensure that, at all times, there were sufficient numbers of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced persons employed for the purposes of carrying on the regulated activities.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we inspected the service in September 2011 only a small number of people were present as most had left for the day to take part in work or other daytime activities. We met some people who were leaving on a shopping trip, accompanied by staff, and others who were spending time at home. For the numbers of people at home at that time there were sufficient numbers of staff available to support them.

However, we found that although staffing levels had been established and a specific number of staff were to be on duty at a time, these agreed levels were not always adhered to. When there were insufficient staff on duty there was a risk that people would not have their support needs fully met or they would experience delays whilst having to wait for this support.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people who used the service.

One person who used the service told us, "I like it here. We have nice people working here. They have been kind to me. I've made friends here." Another person told us, " I have friends here and at the other places [run by the provider]. I like the holidays that have been organised and I like that I go to church on Sundays."

A person who used the service worked as a receptionist at the service. He ensured that we signed-in when we arrived and directed us to the office. He told us that he liked living and working on the site because he thought it was a very pleasant location.

During an inspection in response to concerns

When we visited the service we spent time in two of the residential accommodation units on the site. Most of the people who used these services were out for the day so we only met a very small number of people whilst on site. Those we did talk to were satisfied with the service provided. They were happy that they could take part in activities and also pleased that they had their own bedrooms which they could furnish to their own taste.
