During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we spoke with three people who used the service, the registered manager, a team manager and six support staff. We also used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI) in houses five and six because some of the people living there had complex needs, which meant they were not all able to tell us their experiences of using the service. SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experiences of people who are not able to talk with us.

One person who was able share their experience said they really liked it at Edenbridge as it was so much better than where they had lived before. They also said, "I get to go out when I want to and I visit the library and leisure centre, but I also enjoy all the activities in the main hall' Another person using the service told us, "I'm happy here and I like my key worker, she's really good".

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy living at Edenbridge and that they were getting the support they needed. They said that they were involved in decisions about their daily routines and helped to make choices. People told us that they were encouraged to be as independent as possible and helped with some of the chores around the home, such as laying the meal table and washing up. Some people told us about the work they did in the offices and the bistro that were located in the grounds of the home. We saw the menu plan for the week and people told us that they sat together each Sunday to plan what they would like and that everyone got to choose a favourite meal.

People told us that they felt safe in the home and that the staff treated them with respect and listened to them. They said that they had a meeting each month where they could discuss things that were important to them. One person said 'I like living here, I get to do the things I want to do'. Another person said 'They treat me very well here'. Everyone we spoke with knew who they could talk to if they were worried about anything.
