During a routine inspection

St Giles Hospice- Sutton Coldfield is a supportive care centre for people with cancer and other serious illnesses that impact on their quality of life. A Lymphoedema clinic held at the centre is led by specialist nurses, this allows people to be reviewed locally. Any treatment required would be undertaken at the provider's location in Whittington that offers a range of services. No personal care was being provided at the time of our inspection.

On the day of our inspection we spoke with the registered manager, two nursing staff and one person who used the service. We also observed a person being reviewed in the Lymphoedema clinic with their consent and looked at two people's care records. Following our inspection we conducted telephone interviews with a further four people who used the service and one relative.

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. One person told us," They always ask me before they do anything".

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. One person told us, "The quality of care is excellent".

Infection prevention and control procedures were in place to reduce the risk of infections and staff demonstrated knowledge and awareness of good practice.

People who used the service experienced safe and accessible surroundings that promote their wellbeing.
