Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good.

This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

People and their families were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion and staff respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

A person’s relative told us, “They [staff] are very caring, considerate and supportive” and “The carers make sure [family member] is covered up [when delivering personal care] and they have the door shut and have everything they need ready”. They also said, “The district nurse has made compliments about them [the service]. Lots of people are impressed with them.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People were treated as individuals and staff made sure people’s care and support met their needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture, individual backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff knew people well, so, they knew how to support each person as an individual.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People were supported to be as independent as possible and had choice and control over their care and support.

A person told us, “I tell them what I want to eat” and “They do what they do, and if they finish early, I ask them to stay in another room, as I don’t always want to talk.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

A person’s relative said, “Sometimes, if [family member] has had a bad night they can be sleeping when they [staff] arrive, but they will always ask me before waking them.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

The provider made reasonable adjustments for staff when necessary and were flexible with the staff rota to suit staff needs. Managers had an open-door policy, which meant staff could speak with them about anything at any time. The provider supported staff with their professional development.

Staf were recognised for their work through incentives and rewards.

One member of staff told us, “They [managers] have an open-door policy, and they welcome us at any time. One of the most important things I like is whenever I call the manager or deputy manager, they ask me if I am alright, they care about me”.
