During an inspection looking at part of the service

We inspected Stonecross Nursing Home to check follow up compliance actions from the last inspection report carried out in May 2012. At that inspection we had found areas of non compliance around essential standards to do with care and welfare, nutrition, safeguarding, control of infection and staff recruitment procedures, training and support. In all areas the home had improved the way it looked after the people who used the service, how it recorded the decisions made with and about the people who used the service and how it monitored the staff employed.

We spoke with people who used the service who all spoke positively of the care provided.

One person told us; "The staff are nice and they look after me."

Another person told us: "If I am not happy I just let the staff know. I don't go over their head I deal with it then. I am looked after very well though."

Another told us; "Some staff are more caring than others but they are all ok. There are times when the staff are very busy and you have to wait awhile for someone to come but that is understandable.'

'Staff are kind and caring.'

Comments from relatives we spoke with included;

'I have had concerns and I have spoken with the nurses and the issues were resolved.'

"The staff try really hard."

'I am often not sure my *** (relative) has a regular bath or shower.'

'We were involved in planning my *** (relatives) care when she was first admitted but no-one has gone over with it with us recently. However they do keep us informed if anything untoward happens to her.'
