During a routine inspection

Gattison House is a purpose built home for up to 36 people offering care for older people with various physical and mental health problems.

At the time of the visit there were 28 people living in the home, 11 of whom had a diagnosis of dementia.

The home was clean and well maintained and provided a friendly comfortable environment.

We were told by the people in the home that the home "seems alright to me" and that they were "happy here" while a relative told us that they "couldn't fault the staff".

We were told by the staff that they always "felt able to do a good job" and that they were "happy here and everything is good".

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who used the service and the relatives of two people who used the service. The people who used the service told us they were treated with dignity and respect. They said care workers asked them what help they required and involved them in their care. The relatives also told us that their family members were treated with dignity and respect. They told us that communication was good and that staff always kept them informed.

We also spoke with care workers who explained how they involved people in their care.

People told us they were happy with the care they received. We reviewed care records which showed that risk assessments and formal reviews were undertaken to ensure care was effective and safe.

People told us they felt safe at the home. There was a policy on safeguarding and care workers we spoke with understood how to report any suspicions of abuse.

People told us they thought care workers knew what they were doing. We found that care workers got appropriate training, supervision and development.

People who used the service and their relatives told us they were asked for their opinion as to the quality of care provided. There were systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service people received.
