During a routine inspection

We spoke to two relatives of people using this service. Both were very happy at the care and support provided to their relative. One person told us, 'All the staff here are very kind, nothing is too much trouble.' Our observations told us that people were cared for by staff who delivered care with compassion and respected peoples dignity and human rights.

This service was well led by people who were responsive to our previous findings and had made improvements to make this a safe service.

During a routine inspection

This unannounced visit took place on a Sunday and we were able to speak with four relatives and two people who lived at the service. All the people we spoke with were very positive about the service and what it had to offer. Staff were very satisfied with the training and support they were offered and told us they liked working at St Joseph's. The environment was pleasant with the fabric of the building being well maintained and public areas were clean.

We have made two compliance actions at this service and have asked them to improve how they learn from quality auditing and implement changes. We also found there were not effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection in the laundry.

During a routine inspection

We met and spoke with five people who used the service. One person told us 'I have been here over two years and I like it, its very peaceful and welcoming, feel lucky to be here'.

People who used the service told us they experienced good care and their healthcare needs were met. One person said about the care workers 'I am very fond of the staff, they get the right balance; not over familiar or patronising but genuinely interested in how you are'.

People using the service told us there was enough trained care workers to support them with their needs and call bells were answered promptly. One person told us the care workers 'are well trained and on the ball, especially if someone isn't right, they get them checked over straight away'.

We asked people if they were not happy about their care or treatment what they would do and people told us they would speak to their care workers or the registered manager.

People were positive about the food at the service and said it was appetising, well presented and 'tasty'. They told us they were able to choose what they wanted to eat and if they wanted an alternative from the menu 'it wasn't a problem'. One person told us 'I like the kitchen guys, you can have a laugh with them and they are very accommodating and will fix me something else if I don't want the meal of the day',

One person told us the registered manager 'is fantastic and very approachable, can talk to them if your worried about anything and they will resolve it'.
