During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 02/10/2024 to 09/10/2024. Civic Medical Centre is a GP practice, delivering services to 6700 patients. The service operates from a single site. The service was provided by an individual GP until 2022 when the practice took on a GP partner. The National General Practice Profiles show that the practice has a high proportion of working age patients and is ethnically diverse. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the population is slightly above the England average. This assessment considered the demographics of the population, the context the service was working within and how this impacted the service. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report. The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers ensured staff received training and appraisal. We found some gaps in the way prescribing was managed. People were involved in assessments of their needs taking account of communication and personal needs. There was scope to improve performance in some areas such as the management of diabetes. People were treated with kindness. Staff protected people’s privacy. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the service acted on it. The service was accessible and did not discriminate. There was a shared vision based on listening and learning. Leaders were visible and supportive. However, clinical governance required improvement to ensure clearer oversight of prescribing and more proactive investigation of areas where the practice was performing below expectations. The provider was in breach of a legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found.
