During an inspection looking at part of the service

People living in the home told us they were happy with their care. Comments included, 'We're treated well, treated with respect, and the girls are good as gold ' they treat you as a human being', and, 'You cannot fault the carers, they're very kind and they treat me with respect. Its just like home ' they'll do anything for you'.

The same person also said, however, 'They need more staff on at night'. One person told us the home was sometimes short-staffed, especially in the laundry. Another resident, when asked about when she likes to get up, told us, 'They get me up'.

Staff told us that they can't always respond promptly to calls for assistance at nights, because there was only one carer on the top and ground floors.

People told us that there were no social activities in the evenings, and they were sometimes bored.

During an inspection in response to concerns

One person told us that he was unhappy because he was being restricted from leaving the home when he wished, for no good reason.

Another person said that there was a long term sickness problem with the laundry staff, and believed that care staff were being used to do laundry in addition to their care tasks.

A third person reported fairly regularly having to wait up to 20 minutes for attention, after activating the alarm call.

A fourth person reported having toileting accidents due to staff not responding promptly to the alarm call, and also being left in the toilet for long periods.

Two service users identified what they saw as being a lack of continuity of staff.
