During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with one person who used the service, five staff and the registered manager.

The person we spoke with was not able to comment about the night staffing levels but they did tell us they were looked after well.

The home was calm and we observed people were settled for the night. Staff were not rushed and attended to people's needs in a timely way.

During a routine inspection

We talked with a number of the people who lived in this home and they said that they were well looked after. They said the staff always asked them how they would like things to be done. They said staff were always mindful of their privacy and treated them with respect.

Most people told us that they felt able to raise any issues with the manager or staff should they have any concerns. Staff spoke of their awareness of how to keep people safe from harm. Staff told us about the training that the home had arranged for them to attend so that they would recognise abuse and how to report it.

People told us that staff were usually available when they needed help. They said that the staff were friendly and always acted professionally. One person said 'They're very helpful' and 'They're pretty good'.

The provider had developed a system whereby they can monitor how well the home was meeting the needs of the people who live there.

During a routine inspection

We talked with people who said that they were well looked after. They said the staff always asked them how they would like things to be done, were always mindful of their privacy and treated them with respect. They told us staff talked to them about how they would like their support to be provided.

People told us that they felt able to raise any issues with the manager or staff should they have any concerns. Staff spoke of their awareness of how to keep people safe from harm. Staff told us about the training that the home had arranged for them to attend so that they would recognise abuse and how to report it.

People told us that staff were always available when they needed help. They said that the staff were friendly and always acted professionally. One person said, 'Everyone is nice and very kind' and another said 'Staff are lovely'.

People said their comments were listened to. The home's management held regular meetings with the people who use the service to find out what people thought about how their care was delivered.

During a routine inspection

People who lived in the home, as well as some of their relatives, told us that the staff had explained to them what care and treatment they would be receiving.

They also told us that they were able to maintain regular contact with their legal representative and other organisations such as Age Concern.

Some of the people who were living in the home said that there are regular meetings of all of the people who live there where they can raise and discuss any issues that affect the care that they receive.

They also told us that the home carried out satisfaction surveys where they gave their views on how well the home was meeting their needs and where improvements could be made.

People told us that they had a range of meals that they could choose from and that they were well prepared and presented. One person told us, 'They've never had to scrape food off my plate into the bin' and another said, '....like an hotel in here'.

We were also told that there was a range of activities available for people to take part in should they wish to.

We talked to a number of people who were visiting friends or relatives. They told us that the home always made them feel welcome.

The people who live in the home told us that they felt able to raise any concerns with the manager or one of her staff.

Those people also told us that they felt safe living in this home. They were very complimentary about the people who work their saying such things as 'Can't speak highly enough of the staff'.
