During a routine inspection

Six people explained that they had been involved in planning the care they received from the agency. One person said, 'They (senior staff) have been out several times and discussed the care we need.'

People told us they were satisfied with the care and support provided by the agency. One person said, 'We really appreciate their help, they're smashing.' Another person said, 'They're polite, professional and very helpful.'

We found that procedures and appropriate training were in place for members of staff to assist people to take their medication.

We noted that training for all members of staff was encouraged in order to ensure they had the skills and knowledge to provide safe and effective care for people using the service.

We saw that systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. There was evidence to demonstrate that people were regularly consulted about the care and support provided by the agency.

During a routine inspection

People using the service told us they were satisfied with the care and support provided by Elmwood Home Care Agency. One person said, 'I am very well looked after.' Another person said, 'Everyone is very polite, they've all got a smile on their faces.'

We found that people felt confident to express any concerns. Members of staff had a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and knew the action they must take if allegations of abuse were made to them.

We noted that recruitment procedures were thorough in order to protect people from the employment of unsuitable staff.

We saw that systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. There was evidence to demonstrate that people were regularly consulted about all aspects of the service provided by the agency.

People using the service were not asked to comment about staff recruitment procedures during this visit.

One member of staff told us the recruitment procedure was fair, everything about the job was made clear and she was given the opportunity to ask questions.
