Our view of the service

Outpatients at the Cleveland Clinic London Hospital provides consultations and minor operations from a dedicated clinic in the provider’s main hospital. Consultants lead clinical care with support from nurses and healthcare assistants. Facilities include 8 treatment rooms, a minor operations room, and a phlebotomy room. The department offers point of care testing with an on-site laboratory. Minor surgery includes urodynamics, colposcopy, hysteroscopy and hormone injections. A wide range of clinical specialties in the hospital use the outpatient department, such as urology, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and neurology. Appointments are made by self-referral, referral from another doctor or organisation, or based on wider care pathways where the patient has had surgery in the hospital. The provider’s 3 London locations work closely together, including with an overarching integrated governance system. Where evidence and data are monitored at service level and not at location level, we repeat our findings in more than 1 report and note where we have done so. We carried out an unannounced onsite inspection on 29 October 2024. We have not previously inspected the service.

People's experience of this service

People we spoke with were overwhelmingly positive about the service. They appreciated rapid access to specialists, the time and space to discuss concerns with consultants, and integrated care with surgical services. Patients were very happy with the care and communication from nurses and healthcare assistants and said they felt well cared for regardless of whether this was their first appointment, or they received long term care. People were particularly pleased with the electronic app that enabled them to communicate with clinicians, book appointments, and view their medical records.
