Our view of the service

Diagnostic imaging is operated by Cleveland Clinic London Hospital. It includes X-ray, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) cardiac echocardiogram, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and a mobile C-arm fluoroscopic X-ray system. The C-arm is an imaging device that is based on X-ray technology and can be used flexibly in operating rooms. Most imaging is offered from a dedicated department. There are also 3 mobile x-ray machines for use around the hospital, an MRI scanner in theatres, and a CT scanner in critical care.

The clinical structure of the provider was organised into 8 institutes, with specialties assigned accordingly. Diagnostic imaging was part of the diagnostics institute and led by a chair. This included imaging, pathology, and laboratory medicine. Under our assessment framework, only imaging is included in this report.

We have not previously assessed or rated this service. We carried out an unannounced onsite assessment on 25 November 2024. The service operates between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday for pre-booked appointments and the team offer scanning for inpatients at weekends and out of hours. This assessment rated the diagnostic service as good.

The provider’s 3 London locations offer diagnostic imaging and work closely together, including with an overarching integrated governance system. In some cases, evidence and data are monitored at service level and not at location level and so our findings are repeated in more than 1 report.
