During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people about whether they were given choices. Two people told us they were not sure if they were given choices whereas five people told us they were able to get up and go to bed at what time they liked. They all said there was a choice of food. One person told us they loved 'Indian curry.' This person told us their relative brought them food which met their cultural needs. When we asked if staff ever provided them with food which met their cultural needs they said, 'I have curry once a year.'

One relative spoken with gave positive feedback about the care staff were delivering. They said, 'Staff are approachable and if there are any problems they always contact me and let me know.'

We asked five people if they were happy and settled living at the home. All of them said they were.

Four people we spoke with told us they felt their bedrooms were kept clean and two also told us the communal areas were kept clean and tidy. People also told us they felt the environment needed to be improved.

During our observations we saw that people did not always receive appropriate and timely support from staff.

We spoke with four people using the service about whether they felt they could influence the way the service was run. One person said, 'I can talk to the manager or staff and I feel I will be taken notice of.' Another person said, 'We have not had any meetings yet, but we have had questionnaires and can give feedback. I think we are listened to.'

During an inspection in response to concerns

One person told us that the staff made decisions on their behalf and they did not always feel included in processes about them. This sometimes involved medication changes, bath times and bath days.

This person told us that they had a medication change but no one explained why it was changed. No one seemed to listen to them when they explained that they were not getting on with the new medicine.

Comments from two people who used the services included, 'Overall the care seems fine.' And another person told us, 'There was room for improvement.'

One person told us, 'I always have a nice meal here.'

Another person told us that their hot meals were sometimes cold.

Four people who spoke with us told us that staff were fine with them.

One person told us they felt safe with staff at the home.
