Updated 24 July 2025
We carried out this inspection on the 6 August 2025. This assessment was carried out in response to CQC receiving information of concern. Highgate Lodge Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care to up to 24 people. The service provides support to older and younger adults, people who are living with dementia and people with a physical disability. The provider’s systems were not always effective in ensuring people received safe care and treatment. Systems to review and monitor medicines were not effective and did not ensure medicines were administered safely. There was a lack of oversight in relation to governance. Checks on the environment were not always effective in driving improvements. The provider was in breach of the legal regulations relating to obtaining consent and governance systems. However, there were enough safely recruited staff to support people safely who had received training and were supported in their role. Staff worked with other agencies to support people and understood how to safeguard people from abuse. Staff worked flexibly to support people and helped to maintain their health and wellbeing. Staff supported people to make choices and decisions about their care and remain as independent as possible. Staff were kind and caring and treated people with respect and dignity. There were systems in place to support people and staff which ensured equality, diversity and human rights. There were processes in place for people to speak up if they had any concerns. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns identified at this inspection.
