During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us they were happy living at this care home. People told us, "They have been so lovely here. It could not be better" and "I like living here". People who used the service appeared to be satisfied with the care and services provided at Highfield House.

People who used the service said, "The food is very good", "I enjoy all my meals" and "I like the food here". People were satisfied with the food served at this care home.

Staff told us, "I like working here. We are supported by the acting manager" and "I enjoy working here and we are a hard working and happy team". Staff were satisfied with the temporary management arrangements.

We found some areas of the home needed improvements to ensure all areas of the home were safe for people who used the service.

Some record keeping needed to be improved to show how the home was being effectively managed.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service thought they had good choices and were treated as individuals. Care was described as good and people had a varied choice in their daily activities. Food served at the home was appreciated and a choice of meal offered. People had good access to health professionals 24 hours a day. People were given their medication safely.

People said they felt safe and could raise a concern if they wished.

The home was warm, clean and free from offensive odours. Equipment was maintained and decoration carried out as necessary.

People said their rooms were very nice and the home in general was well furnished and suited to their needs.

Staff were described as caring or good and that there were sufficient staff on duty to meet peoples needs. They thought staff were well trained and they had a good say in how their care was delivered. Records were well maintained and stored confidentially.
