Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 1 July 2025

Date of Assessment: 16 July 2025 to 31 July 2025.

Spencers Lodge is a care home providing support for people with a learning disability for up to 8 people. At the time of our assessment there were 7 people living at Spencers Lodge.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People received individualised support based on their assessed needs, goals and aspirations. Support was planned, delivered and regularly reviewed in partnership with people, their relatives and relevant professionals. Support was person-centred and focused on ensuring people had choice and control in their daily lives.

People were supported by enough staff who knew them well and who were trained to meet their individual needs. Risks to people’s health, safety and welfare were managed in the least restrictive way. This enabled people to maintain and develop their independence in a safe way.

There was an open and caring culture within the service that took account of everyone’s views, opinions and ideas. Staff were well supported and felt able to speak out if they had any concerns.

Systems were in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service provided. Regular audits were carried out for areas such as medicines management, infection control and completion of people’s personal records. Actions plans were in place to ensure any shortfalls were addressed quickly.

People's experience of the service

Updated 1 July 2025

Most people were able to express their thoughts and feelings about living at Spencers Lodge either verbally, by using sign language or picture cards.

People were positive about their experience of support within the service. They shared how safe they felt and how supportive and kind staff were. Our observations showed people were at the centre of their support; they were actively listened to and supported to make choices and decisions about their daily lives.

Relatives were equally positive about support and leadership within the service. We saw how the registered manager responded to any worries relatives had in an open and inclusive way.
