Our view of the service

We carried out this assessment between 14 May 2026 to 1 June 2026. Brooklyn House nursing home is a care home providing accommodation for people requiring nursing or personal care. The service supports adults over or under 65 years of age and people living with dementia. The service supports up to 38 people.

We carried out our assessment due to the age of the service rating.

During our inspection we found concerns with audit and quality assurance processes as they did not identify concerns we found. We found portable oxygen cylinders were stored in an unventilated cupboard near people, an area of a hot pipe in an assisted bathroom was not insulated, people had access to substances which could be harmful, radiators had plastic coated metal frames over them which did not stop hot radiators being accessible to people, and poor infection control. People were not always being supported to reposition in line with the required time regime, and a Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA) had not been completed for a person.

These concerns constituted breaches in regulations for good governance and safe care and treatment.

Brooklyn House nursing home had a caring staff team with the right skills and knowledge to support people effectively. Staff received training and regular supervisions to maintain quality care. The service worked in partnership with other organisations including health and community groups to meet people’s needs.

Staff told us that they were supported by the registered manager, who was approachable.

The provider and registered manager were committed to improvement. The registered manager was proactive with concerns we raised and actioned them during our inspection.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people about their experience at Brooklyn House nursing home and their relatives. Not everyone at Brooklyn House nursing home could tell us about their experience, so we carried out structured observations. We saw staff treated people kindly and with respect. People told us the staff were kind and that they could ask staff for any support they needed. A person told us, “The staff treat me well, when I ring my call bell they always come and help me”. Relatives told us that they felt the home was safe, the staff were kind and had the skills to support their loved ones. A relative told us, “[Person] is completely safe. I am thrilled [person] is here. I am very happy with the care [person] gets.”
