During an inspection looking at part of the service

At this inspection we met with the providers and the new manager of the home, all of whom contributed to the inspection. We spoke with five people living at the home, three members of the staff team and one visiting relative.

People living at the home we spoke with told us that they had no concerns or complaints. They said that there was a good staff team, most of whom had worked at the home for a long time, so everyone knew each other well. People said that their personal care needs were met and that the staff were kind, courteous and caring. We were able to observe people being supported with moving and handling as well as interactions between staff and people living at the home, and saw both good practice and good communication.

One person told us that they had chosen to move to Oak Mount as they had visited someone in the home before they had decided to live there. They told us that they had been impressed with how people were looked after at Oak Mount.

The visiting relative we spoke with told us that they visited regularly without giving notice and always found their mother to be clean and well looked after. They also told us that there was good communication between themselves and the home.

Since the last inspection we found that improvements had been made. These included better care planning, increased staff at key times of the day, an increase in activities arranged for people and better monitoring and reviewing of the service as a whole.

During a routine inspection

People using the service were generally positive about the care received at this home although those spoken with and able to be involved were not aware of care plans or reviews of their care needs. People were able to make day to day choices for example about where they wanted to sit or eat and when they got up. Some people told us that choices about food were limited. People did feel that attention was given to dignity and privacy by the staff. Those spoken with said that they felt comfortable, staff were friendly and a family atmosphere was created.

An expert by experience was also involved in this inspection and their findings are included in this report. An expert by experience has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses a health, mental health and/or social care service.
