During an inspection looking at part of the service

This inspection was undertaken to check actions the provider had taken since our

previous inspection 24 July 2013.

We checked that there were sufficient staff to meet the needs of people who lived in the home and that there were suitable arrangements in place for medicines.

During our visit we spoke with four people who lived in the home, the registered manager, the qualified nurse and five care staff.

All the people who lived in the home said that there were sufficient staff to meet their needs in a timely fashion. One person told us: "The girls are all so good and help me when I need them". Another person said; "I cannot fault them, they are marvellous". We found that the provider had taken appropriate steps to ensure that staffing arrangements met the needs of people who lived in the home.

We found that required actions had been taken to ensure that people received their medicines safely and as they were prescribed.

24 July 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who lived at the home, four relatives, the manager and four care staff.

People told us that they received good care although they had to wait for staff to attend to them. One person said: "I like living here and the staff are all very good and caring but I have to wait for staff to come to me when I ring for assistance". Another person said: "The staff are very good and try their best but they never stop". We observed that people waited for assistance and one person waited for more than an hour. The manager told us that they were recruiting additional staff to ensure that there were sufficient staff. We were not assured that there were appropriate systems in place to ensure that the number and skill mix of staff was appropriate to meet the needs of people who lived in the home.

We found the home was homely, well maintained and clean. People who lived or visited the home all told us they found the home to be clean. One relative told us: "I can't fault it it's the best home I have been to and there is never any smell". One relative told us: " It such a nice place and very tranquil, everyone is so good".

Improvement was required to ensure that the home had appropriate systems in place to manage people's medicines safely and ensure that people received the medicines they needed.

We saw that the service had an effective complaints system available. We saw that comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with were all positive about the care and support they or their relative received. One person told us, "It's nice here, they are very good to us". One relative said, "I have found this place to be far superior to anywhere I have visited, the care, facilities in fact everything", Another relative said, "I like it here, its clean and there is no smell".

People were fully involved in their life in the home and were consulted about their care needs and the running of the home.

People all told us that staff respected them, one relative said, "They always treat them with respect". Other people who we asked said, "Always", and "Without doubt".

People all told us that staff were kind and caring. They told us that mostly staff answered the call bell quickly. One person said, "Staff usually come as soon as they can". Another person said, "They are wonderful, everyone is very pleasant, I cannot fault them".

Staff were trained to identify and respond to any incidents of abuse.

Staff received training and support to provide people with the support they needed. They had completed induction training when they started work and had undertaken additional training to develop and improve their knowledge and skills.

The service had systems in place to review and monitor the care people received.
